The Art of Cookbook Covers

If you are a foodie, or even if you aren't - what kind of cover pulls you in?  I love clean spare covers with great photography.  I find the simpler the cover the more I am drawn to it.  Usually great covers reveal a treasure of a cookbook in terms of recipes and fantastic product shots.

I need a clutch for lipstick & extra jewelry

We are coming in to spring and for me that means lots of events.  The kind with heels, a nice dress, jewelry, and a pocketbook.  But seriously, the huge bag that I carry around is not so practical at events.  I need a clutch to carry cell phone, lipstick, credit card and extra jewelry (because - hey you never know).  So I've been on the lookout for something small, light and fun.  I found all three of these on Etsy.  Going to sleep on this one.  Check out their shops to view their lovely pieces.

Feeling Paris Today

Not sure why, but I'm feeling Paris today.  Perhaps it's the rain today.  It's drizzling, slightly moody, but the birds are still chirping away.  Looking forward to seeing Paris again, someday.

A place for Napping

We are finally getting a taste of spring - whew, thank goodness!  I'm longing to sit outside again, sip my coffee and read the paper.  I would love to have an outdoor space that looked like this.  Just add a day bed with lots of pillows for napping, and you've got yourself a knockout outdoor retreat.

Shop Update on Etsy

A few items from our Etsy shop update.  Enjoy.

Conduit Booties

Woah, I saw these shoes on the Anthropologie website and I just adore them.  They really are perfect for spring - part boot part sandal.

Studio Inspiration

I really could use a larger studio space but that's not happening any time soon, so instead I've been collecting images of what I would like a new and improved space to be.  I love the look of the high ceiling and brick wall in the first photo and the clean open workspace in the second photo.  (you can insert a lot of sighing here)

Fonts on the Brain

Yes, I have fonts on the brain!  I am working on designing bar mitzvah invitations for a friend and we are in the thick of picking out fonts.  It's become a slight obsession.  There are just so many delicious ones out there.  The above fonts are from here.

Red Velvet Cake

Okay, so this is what happens when I want to lay off the sweets - I start obsessing about them.  I had a craving for cake today and found these red velvet cake balls on Etsy.   What's not to love - red velvet cake tucked into a tiffany blue shell of icing.  Oh yum!  Check out other goodies in Audrey Kate Rae's shop.

High Heel Rant

I think I am officially over the high heel obsession that has captured the fashion world, and am ready to move onto a more manageable heel height.  I have seen in Vogue that kitten heels are ready to make a come back.  But I'm not a kitten heel girl, I don't like the name, nor do I like the shape of the heel.  I like a shoe that gives me height, but that I can also run and catch a train in, or traipse through a museum, or just walk around town in that fast pace walk that I have.

Now I really do like high heels!  I have many.  Three inches is really the max I can go though.  And I can only wear them for events.  This past fall I feel hard for a pair of shoe booties.  I paid some nice Ben Franklin's for them and then waited a few months for them to hit the market.

Subconsciously I failed to notice that they were 4 inches high with a platform.  They are beautiful and sexy, but I can't walk in them.  I tried.  I first managed a few dinners out with them on - easy.  Then I wore them to an afternoon at the museum and lunch.  It started out well enough but declined badly.  I walked slow.  Had to hold onto someone for emotional and physical stability.  On the walk back to the car, I stopped in the middle of the street and begged my family to collectively carry me.  Have you ever seen a grown woman beg their family to carry them?  If you did, it was me (near the Museum of Natural History).  I stumbled into the car garage and the attendants looked at me as if I was high on crack.  Yes, it was that bad!  My lesson learned, you sometimes have to live through the pain to discover that some things were just not made for you.

BTW - I really love the shoes above!

Blue Tiled Bathroom = Love

I have a thing for the color blue, especially blue tiles.  I have cobalt blue tiles in my kitchen and blue glass tiles in the guest bathroom.  I think I have found my perfect bathroom - with beautiful blue subway tiles.  Heaven!  I found these pictures from an ideabook on Houzz, curated by Margaret Everton

Geninne Zlatkis - Watercolor Extraordinaire

I've been following Geninne Zlatkis's blog for awhile now, and I'm still as smitten as the day I found her.   I recently saw this curation of small fantastic objects and fell in love.  I think I have an affinity for this piece because the small boat in the bottle is labeled Valparaiso, which is a port city in Chile.  And, closer to home, the city where my main character leaves from in my novel (the one I still have to finish...).   Based in Mexico, Geninne paints wonders in watercolors.  Her prints are bright, vivid and really capture your imagination.  Check out her shop here.  Check out her blog here.

Fun Brass Jewelry

I usually work in gold and silver, but today I brought out all of my brass to play.  I love working with brass, it has an earthy quality and beautiful color to boot.  Raw brass chains are usually heavy and luxurious.  I typically buy brass vintage or deadstock chain, which is great for the environment.  I will be posting these one of a kind beauties in my Etsy shop in the next few days.
